Two Small Pieces of Glass

Summarytspog

Produced to engage and appeal to audiences of all ages, Two Small Pieces of Glass traces the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass—using two small pieces of glass—to the launch of NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. It explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers through out the last 400 years.

Plot

While attending a local star party, two teenage students learn how the telescope has helped us understand our place in space and how telescopes continue to expand our understanding of the Universe. Their conversation with a local female astronomer enlightens them on the history of the telescope and the discoveries these wonderful tools have made. The students see how telescopes work and how the largest observatories in the world use these instruments to explore the mysteries of the universe.

IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System

ibex

Join scientists who are investigating the boundary between our Solar System and the rest of our galaxy. Designed for visitors with an appreciation for the challenges of space science and a desire to learn more about science research, IBEX: Search for the Edge of the Solar System follows the creation of NASA’s Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX). Audiences will get an in-depth look at the mission and how IBEX is collecting high-speed atoms to create a map of our Solar System’s boundary. Narrated by two inquisitive teenagers, audiences will hear from the scientists and engineers that developed the IBEX mission and created the spacecraft, and get the latest updates on the mission’s discoveries.

Lesson Points made in IBEX:

  • States of Matter
  • In depth look at nature of Plasma
  • The shape of the Sun’s Heliosheath
  • How are interstellar maps made?

Flight To The Moon: LRO and LCROSSLRO_LCROSS_Poster

Produced by Clark Planetarium and NASA, this fulldome “news brief” educates students about two new lunar probes. The recent launch of these two new probes to the moon marks the first steps in an unprecedented look at the moon. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter will reveal details with 10 times the resolution of any other orbiter. The Lunar Crater and Sensing Satellite will watch its massive Centaur upper stage rocket plunge into a shaded crater on the lunar south pole, in the ultimate search for water on the moon. This mini-show summarizes the missions in vivid 3-dimensional animation.
